Wedding at Pheasant Run
Jill + Mike’s Pheasant Run wedding was a wet one. Jill and I had been in contact the week leading up to the wedding, each of us checking the radar every day. By Friday, I knew we were going to have rain to deal with, and there was nothing we could do. I spoke privately with the wedding coordinator, and we came up with a plan. Rain isn’t a bad thing on your wedding day at all. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. You can see how beautiful everything looked! Ironically enough, Jill + Mike had a similar day when we photographed them for their engagement session.
Jill and I have known each other for several years. We used to take dance lessons together when we were kids, and her father owned a local business in town for many years. We lost touch over the years, but I happened to attend a playgroup with her sister Kaitlyn, and she got us in touch with one another. I am so thankful she did. It really meant the world to me to be able to capture this day for Jill + Mike.
Jill + Mike had planned for a first look. I don’t know how many times I’ve said it, but first looks make us so happy! It just allows for so much more quality time spent with the people you love, and not having to rush around for pictures after the ceremony. Their first look was one of the sweetest we’ve ever witnessed. Mike’s reaction to Jill was priceless. And then there was his gift….. Jill + Mike’s first date took place at Milestones quite a few years back. If you’re familiar with the restaurant, they put little charms on your drinks. Mike had actually saved this little donkey from Jill’s drink and had it cast into a little silver charm! As Jill opened this gift, I had to wipe away a few tears while I was capturing the moment. The look on Jill’s face is something I will never forget.
Somehow the rain managed to hold off while we toured the property with Jill + Mike. Pheasant Run has one of the most beautiful outdoor ceremony locations. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t want to cooperate and allow Jill + Mike to get married outside. Everyone headed inside to another one of our favourites, an unplugged ceremony. Jill + Mike really wanted their guests to be present, in the moment with them during their vows. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, and the love Jill + Mike have for one another was felt throughout the room. After the ceremony, Jill + Mike were able to spend their entire cocktail hour with their guests. The reception space was beautiful and everyone was having a wonderful time.
Jill + Mike had a special request for one of their photos. They wanted a nighttime shot in the gazebo. We don’t normally do this type of shot, just because we love to shoot with available light. But, we had some fun with off camera flash at the end of the night, and the thousands of bugs ended up lighting up and looking like stars.
We hope you enjoy this small sneak peek, guys. It was really hard to whittle it down to what I’ve posted here. I can’t wait for you to see the whole collection. We can’t thank you enough for including us in your special day.
